Congratulations to the Town of Moira, NY on their new 60’ by 80’ salt and sand storage facility located next to the Town Highway Garage on County Route 6!

The new storage facility will provide an indoor area for mixing and covered protection for the Town’s salt and sand supply. Site work included erosion and sediment control fill, asphalt flooring, apron, and lighting.

Previously, salt and sand were stored in uncovered piles at the Moira DPW facility. The new facility is a huge benefit as it will protect groundwater assets and local drinking water from salt contaminates. In addition, the overhead protection will reduce loss and the negative effects of salt clumping due to wet weather and wind.

Laberge Group, contracted by the Town was pleased to provide design services for the salt storage facility, prepare the bid and permitting documents, oversee selecting a general contractor, project oversight and reporting, as well as assistance with applying for and securing up to $555,200 in funding through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) program and Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) for the Salt Storage Facility Project.
